Super helpful and friendly, was even upgraded to a larger room due to staying a while. Helped with providing a map and recommended some sights to see. Room was clean and well kept during the stay. The water was warm! Hate lukewarm water to shower with... not an issue here! Great water pressure and amazing water temps.
Basic rooms for the price which was fine. Because we weren't staying there to live in the room. Employees were outstanding and friendly at any time. You go somewhere that is American owner is even better.
Randomly picked this hotel for my stay in newberry! The staff was awesome at communicating with me before and during my stay. I enjoyed my stay and trip to the area so much that I decided to stay an extra night. The rooms were very nice, there's lots of nice wooden carvings. You can tell this place is well taken care of. Would 100 percent stay here again and recommend anyone else staying here. Price was right and service was awesome.
Wonderful roadside motel. Room was clean, beds comfy, loved the knotty pine and eclectic decor. Staff was super friendly. We took their suggestion to attend a community breakfast; glad we did. We will definitely return.
What a great little motel! We stayed one night, check in was easy, room was clean, staff very friendly, and the price was good too. Water pressure was great with lots of hot water. This place reminded me of the quality service of my youth!
I like this place. Clean, neat, cozy. Staff was helpful. To make it better, here is what my room (#5) would need: *A drop of oil on the hinges. *More opaque bathroom curtains, though I tested them and they do work; and front door curtain clips to block view of bed from outside. *Toilet secured to ground (it rocks if you lean to the side, lifts the sheet of tile.) *Door sliding bolt lined up correctly. Overall, I'd stay here again. Just wanted to give a helpful review.
First time in Up, came to see Lake Superior and the leaves! Happened on this secret gem much to our appreciation! The room we stayed in is CLEAN, COMFORTABLE, BEDS GREAT, WALK IN SHOWER. A really nice place to stay some nights and travel around. AMERICAN OWNED.
My wife and I stayed here on a cross country trip. We were warmly greeted at the desk. Location is good, right in town close to stuff you might need. That is all the good stuff. The room: significantly dated but clean. My sixty something year old wife commented that she felt like she was in her parents house when she was five. An overhaul of the room is 30 years overdue. No coffee machine in the room, no soap, no shampoo, no fridge, no microwave, all things that are nearly universal in rooms these days. The bushes between the parking and the room were a nice touch except that they were in dire need of trimming. Like the inside of the room, the outside has been neglected. This is a place to sleep and nothing more. Bed was comfortable. If we are in the area again we will do some room shopping, but not at the Gateway.
Very clean, quaint and reasonably priced motel. Enjoyed our stay there and will definity add to favorite places to stay at again. Thank you for your hospitality!
I am on a family trip and needed multiple rooms, very last minute, and unplanned. This place has a good location, very basic rooms, very good pricing, clean, and reminds me of the honest good natured people of years past that I was beggining to doubt existed anymore. Loved it.
